Burn The Radio!

I have to say up front that this blog post is biased.  The lead singer of Burn The Radio, Paolo Rizzo, is a good friend of mine.

Elvis v. Beatles

In my last post, I talked briefly about a deleted scene from Pulp Fiction that claimed you are either an Elvis Fan or a Beatles Fan. You can’t be both. I acknowledged that I am an Elvis fan.

A friend of mine read that post and commented on FaceBook that she’s a Beatles fan, so what does that mean?

Try A Little Tenderness

One thing you should know about me is that my favourite type of music is Soul from the 60's and 70's. My favourite record label is Stax/Volt Records. My favourite singer of all time is Otis Redding and my favourite song of his is "Try A Little Tenderness".

A few weeks ago, my friend Late July posted a live version of Otis Redding's cover of “Try A Little Tenderness” for her weekly Saturday Morning Soul post on her blog.  You can find it here:

The Ivory Queen of Soul & The Queen of Stax

This was originally written for my friend's blog: http://miss.latejuly.ca/  However, since it's New Years Day I thought I'd make it my first post here.

On December 26, 2010, Teena Marie (AKA Marie Christine Brockert) passed away at 54. Teena Marie was known as the “Ivory Queen of Soul” because she was a white Rhythm and Blues singer who was more popular in the Black Community.
